God, Postmodernism & Rock n Roll
Every so often I do an interactive presentation in Dalhousie's student residences. My presentation is called God, Postmodernism & Rock n Roll. In it I use rock music as a springboard for discussion about the challenges of living in a postmodern world. First, we talk about the historical and cultural transition from modernity to postmodernity. Then, we listen to a selection of songs by bands like Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Our Lady Peace, Coldplay, Bruce Springsteen, and U2.
In our conversation we consider our responsibility to critically engage our rapidly changing world and we try to imagine a new way forward in our world. A way that is marked by a lifestyle of love, compassion and mercy.
